  • Micky Ward's best fights?

I just watched The Fighter for the second time, terrific film and one of my favorite boxing movies ever, and now I'm interested to go through his career. I've already watched the Gatti trilogy, Neary, and Augustus. Anything else?

Yeah, if you like him get yourself a career set in Ioffer or from a seller's site and check out any other available fights of his.

The Diaz fight is worth a watch and the Green fight is incredible if just for the amazing turnaround!

Go way back in his career, before he took the years off. Pretty good fight with Mike 'Machine Gun' Mungin, pretty good fight with Edwin Curet, who was a tough guy and the guy you needed to beat to move up. Ward didn't, and Curet stopped Rooney protege Ricky Meyers.

Ward's fights with Gatti almost cemented his reputation as a tear-up merchant, but he was actually a very cool and composed tactical boxer who knew exactly when to get on his bike and store the power for a late surge if needed.. Mickey had very underrated footwork, and was rarely in any danger vs a puncher. He could be unpredictable too , a good example being the fight vs Alfonso Sanchez, a Mexican prospect who was just coming off a run of 1st round ko's.. Strange fight where Ward gets out of range and hardly throws a punch for 6 rounds, then almost breaks him in half with a well timed bodyshot to win by ko in the 7th.

Just watched his brother's fight with SRR.. God, that guy was awkward!

You mean the ****y Ecklund fight with Sugar Ray Leonard? Yeah, watched that recently too, just finished a Leonard career set. Awkward but a game competitor. I don't know why his mom wanted it stopped, he didn't seem in that bad of shape.

His mom was obviously a worrier, and when you take a look at Ekland's history, it's understanderble..

Wonder what she thought of his crack smoking video.

How good is Ward exactly? Do you think he's just another journeyman or could he won a major belt with the right management?

Somewhere inbetween really. He certainly was'nt 'just another journeyman.' I think, 'fringe contender' is an appropriate description..
To judge exactly how good he was, or could've been, is to watch the fights in which he peaked, ie vs Gatti, who despite a crowd pleasing style, was'nt the greatest of champions, and imo was slightly better than Ward.. Just my opinion though, but all three of those fights show Ward at his utmost best, and Gatti how he always was.
