Never thought highly of Berbick and was shocked when he beat a lethargic Pinklon Thomas. Ali was virtually a heavy bag when they fought and Berbick was still unimpressive. But like others have said, he was strong and awkward. When he stepped up against true greats like Holmes and Tyson he was badly outclassed. If I had to compare him to an active heavyweight, I might say Bermane Stiverne.

Trevor Berbick ******, skill-wise, but he was strong, and sometimes he could be pretty tough. He lost to ST Gordon, a cruiserweight, and he ******, too. The thing about Berbick, though, just when he had you thinking that he really really ******, and you took him lightly, he'd turn up the strong and tough and you'd find out that he didn't suck as much as you thought he did.

He basically fought his entire early career in my hometown (Halifax, Nova Scotia). My dad took me to a couple of his fights. Good solid fighter, but not anything special. Although he was a very good combination puncher when he got a good rhythm going.

I was a kid and watched him lose the Mercado fight live. I also saw him in another fight where he almost decapitated a guy. I cannot remember the name though. Back then my city was a nice little hotbed of boxing. We had cards going on all the time.

Answer: The worst fighter to ever hold a version of the Heavyweight title. He actually made Hasim Rahman look semi-competent in comparison.

Worse than Buster Douglas? Well, I guess, since Douglas was able to beat Tyson. And at least Rahman held the lineal heavyweight title.

Douglas at least had big-time talent.....when he was motivated to use it he was damn good. He just wasn't motivated very often.

Won't speak ill of the dead, but he was awful to watch and will never be forgiven for what happened with Ali.

Dont know about theworst, but he's in that mix.

Berbick beat Muhammad Ali in his last bout, that being his most famous match.

He fought Holmes and went 12 rounds to lose by SD.

They had a pretty angry feud which lead to a parking lot fight. He ended 49-11-1 and was unfortunately murdered in Jamaica. Berbick also has wins over Greg Page, Pinklon Thomas (how he won the title.) Berbick was also the Canadian world heavyweight champion. His bout with Tyson is how he lost the strap.

He was pretty decent and a worthy contender. I don't believe he was a big puncher, more accumulative like Bernard Hopkins but a bit rougher when he wants. (see how pissed he is when he swings at Larry Holmes.)

A little out there mate. Larry beat him over 15 rounds.....and it was no split decision, not a close fight at all.

But to be fair to Berbick, he has a very undeserved reputation as one of the poorer champions. He does have some good names on his record and whilst raw, he did have good power and good distance stamina.

If you'd throw the guy who decisioned Pinklon Thomas into today's mix of heavyweights he'd have a good chance to beat most on his night.

The Tyson destruction complete with the wobbly legged dance didn't do his reputation/legacy any good sadly.

Gotta admit that I haven't watched a lot of Berbick's fights.

This is an excellent short description of Trevor Berbick.
