Your welcomed! Point is the people he fought after 51 were the best guys out there! You can be in your prime and loose! The fans today are caught up in the "undefeated" garbage that Calzaghe and Mayweather and others have propagated!! Its bull ****!
Just look at those names he fought from 51 thru 63!!! Those are hugh quality boxers at that time!!! Stan Harrington today is a top 5 guy in the Welters!

Whatever, lunch time and a baseball game is better than this crap!!!

Broner won easily but Bika and the Mexican kid stole the show!! Not great technique but all the heart and Soul you could ask for!!

Seth and Banks should be stripped of their liscenses and band for a year!
    They were a disgrace!

This might just be the most unwarranted and illogical piece of bad-mouthing I've seen on these forums, with a bit of irony thrown into the mix for good measure. Not only do you slam Barnburner for his opinion (in which I agree with, btw) and tell him to get his facts straight (despite him not posting any facts, rather him just stating his opinion), you then go on to state incorrect facts right in your attempt to 'correct' him.

Anyway, I don't think there's any doubt that Ray was past his prime while at Middleweight. I also don't believe he's the greatest Middleweight of all-time. That's not to say I think you're wrong for thinking he is or that he couldn't beat any other Middleweight ever on his best night, because it's possible that he could, but if he truly was the same fighter in his Middleweight days compared to his Welterweight days, he wouldn't have lost the title 4 times. He would've been too good to let that happen if those fights came when he was about 10 years younger.

Seems quite clear to me that his prime ended when he initially retired in 1951. He was still a great fighter when he came out of retirement, though - better than most - but not quite the same animal as he was beforehand.

Ofcourse if you lose in your prime your prime sucks! Right? During your prime you can't be beat?? Honestly the words "great" and "prime" are over used on here and their true meaning is LOST!! Barnburner and I have been going back and forth for some time so its not just the one thread here! Everyone is entitled to their opinions but the facts need to be right! He's a teenage boy who enjoys arguing with a veteran boxing insider whose opinions are based on actual experiences and passed on knowledge that I've recieved from some of these greats and/or the people who worked with them or knew them outside the sport!
Now thats the facts, I'm NOT bragging I'm offering you real life experiences and please believe me when I say I don't give a ratz azz if I'm impressing anyone here, I'm simply offering some insight!
As for evaluating Sugar Ray Robinson you don't have the talent or experience to recognize what he's doing in the ring and you defenitely don't know anything about techniques and ring generalship. Yu see a grainy film of some guy beating up people! You can't see what he's setting up or how he's doing it! You don't know squat! Ray.

Thank you for your very classless reply, Ray. I should've known not to expect anything more or less from you by now, though.

I'd like to spend some time sharing my opinions with you some more, I really would, but sadly I don't know squat and you know it all, so it would all be one big waste of time.

Actually, as an afterthought, maybe you'll be able to mind-read just exactly what I'm thinking and send your thoughts to me via telepathy, since you already seem to know so much about me, despite having never met me or barely conversed with me ever. Yeah, that'd be great!

Ray no one here is trying to put Robinson down I'm sure we all agree here that he's pound for pound number one of all time, but the question is about his prime, and yes we would all acknowledge you can lose in your prime, Ray did lose in his prime- back in 43. But prime is the state when you're at your peak in youth and skills, do you think Ray in 55 was as good as in 51? Isn't it clear that he was past his prime considering his performances started to become inconsistent?

My personal opinion of his prime corroborates with Ray's opinion himself, and its his welterweight period that we don't have on tape, leaving him clearly past prime by the Fulmer/Basilio fights.

Thank you, kendom, you echo my thoughts almost exactly.

Try explaing his prime time to Basillo, Harrington, Fullmer and the rest! I talked about Sugar with Basillo many years ago I knew Stan Harrington personally when I had my active years training and met him through Gaspar Ortega because they fought a number of times! You see I talked to people who fought Sugar at that time and you didn't! So please tell me how your opinion of his "prime" effected Bassillo one of the greatest fighters of all time?
