    Marvin Hagler vs Carlos Monzon

What are your thoughts about this intreguing matchups between two great middleweights? Assuming both fighters are in their prime, who do you believe would win?

Hagler could probably edge Monzon, but most likely, Marvin and Carlos would fight to a draw.

I think Hagler, Monzon and Robinson - in head-to-head terms - are the three best middleweights. And with them, they are the traditional fighter A,B and C. Hagler beats Monzon, Monzon beats Robinson, Robinson beats Hagler.

          - -Dunno about that, but Marv on record saying he wished for that fight.

There is a 5 year overlap from Marvs start and Carlos end, prob being Carlos at the top whereas Marv still in his early struggles.

Are there any common opponents other then Bennie Briscoe?

One has to figure they weren't fighting the same Briscoe. Monzon in '67 & '72 and Hagler in '78.

The 1976 Ring Rankings (Yearly) doesn't have Hagler ranked. But the very next year, 1977 Hagler is ranked #1, with R. Valdez as champion. (That ranking would have come out in spring '78.)

I don't think much of 'prime to prime' comparisons, but if Hagler somehow had gotten a shot in '77 or if Monzon stayed until '78, Hagler wouldn't have been ready for Monzon.

Best to best, then, by buggery.

Valdez couldn't beat a past prime Monzon.

                  What chance does Hagler have?

This fight seems extremely even. It should be one of the most highly contested matches in history.
