Was Sugar Ray Robinson past his prime by 1951?

There is virtually no footage of him at 147lbs, only snippets. Certainly no full fights. But there is of him at middleweight.

SRR was born in 1921, so he was 30 in 1951. Would he still have been in his prime IMO? Maybe 1 or 2 years away from his prime ending?

I think the feeling was, even in his own camp, that he was slowing down at that point, certainly losing interest. Then he took the three years off to be a dancer; by the time he came back he was certainly past his best.

He may have been losing interest prior to the maxim fight but he was still the best fighter in the world. His son said that ray was never the same after that dehydration and struggled in his early comeback. He did recover some his form and his fights with basilo and fullmer were classics.

Sugar Ray Robinson wasn't even a heavyweight, which makes him a non-ATG, overrated BUM. I don't know anything about him because he was a welterweight and middleweight and he never fought Mike Tyson.

Don't know how he did it man.Dykes was a top contender at one point down at WW, to still be that good with 117 fights under your belt........man he's one of a kind. But that's not SRR's best fight by any means
