  • Was the 70s the Golden age of Lightheavyweight?

I have always been partial to the Lightheavys and Cruiserweights, and after reading the best light heavyweight thread would you consider the 70s the Golden age of the light heavyweights?

I do, but maybe it is because that is when i first started watching boxing.

    Your thoughts?

How great would it be to turn back the clock and see Saad and Marvin

Man I wish I was around then. The '70s seems to be a great era for light heavyweights and the heavyweight division

I remember watching that fight as a kid! The light heavyweights to me back then reminded me of superheros (I have always been a comic book fanatic) with their size and ripped muscular bodies going to war. And when I was between the ages of 5 and 10 those fighters to me were real live superheros

there was maybe a five year stretch culminating in spinks beating qawi for the undisputed crown in like '82. mark back five years from that and u have one ridiculus battle of contenders after another, yaqui lopez, saad, Mustafa, bull martin, james scott, Richie kates, victor galindez, mike rossman, marvin Johnson, murray Sutherland, eddie davis, also one who fought out of a soviet bloc country which was rare, I think he got hammered by marvin Johnson but even the losers in these matches came to play, ramon ronquillo had a couple of network dates, also almost forgot about john conteh. all them guys could fight and got network dates which were free back then. to me that's the golden era
