Duran was a great win for hearns. Yes he took some Ls during that part of his career but he was never destroyed like that by anyone, also most of his losses were to very good or great fighters. And lets not forget duran didnt always prepare properly in some of those losses, but not even duran would be foolish enough to overlook hearns. He claimed he did at times but everyone around him and involved with the fight say thats not true.

For the record the WBA didnt allow duran to unify with hearns, im not sure if he vacated or was stripped but either way he lost his title for choosing to fight hearns rather than his mandatory mike mccallum. Mccallum then left steward because he made the fight.

Yeah, I always thought it was a good win too. Both fighters were still good and Duran wasn't past it by that much.

Let me put it this way, Duran was a great lightweight and briefly a great welterweight, but his career after Leonard I isn't really the stuff of a great fighter. More like a good one. And it was a good win for Hearns.

On paper that is true, but it is pretty well known that Duran was in much better condition for the Hagler fight. He barely trained for Hearns, just working on making weight. While it was a spectatular KO to watch, I've always considered Hearns' win over Cuevas as his career best performance.

I have heard this as well that Duran drained himself but he had nobody to blame but himself.

in shape or not, nobody flattened duran like hearns did. imo what makes hearns an atg is his dominant run at 154, seemed like he had that title forever. just gave me a thread idea
