2 About how many wraps directly over the knuckles?
Dempsey's trainer said he used seven layers of gauze and two layers of adhesive tape. Witnessed by two of Willard's people and almost a dozen other journalists. One of Willard's guys, Walter Monaghan, walked down to ringside with Demosey to ensure the wraps and gloves were not tampered with.

Willard in just as a loud voice barked back, "Not that crap, give me the good stuff." It made the papers and Dempsey had no choice but to sack him.

Yes I believe he did him more than the odd favour

Willard as a sales rep must have been a sight to behold

Dempsey's trainer also said the tape hardened to cause unusual punishment.

Willard wanted the bandages to be minimal and said that he would insist on it. His request was obviously denied if you look at both fighters hands. The pictures show that Dempsey's hands were bandaged heavily while Willards were bandaged lightly. I've already posted the pictures.

Finally, having guys watch wouldn't matter because taping hands wasn't illegal. This isn't a hard concept to understand. But there's even more to it than that. I hope you enjoy the debate.

Fascinating idea, Tony. Gloves that required no wrappings on the hand would eliminate the potential for loaded wraps. Then some way to draw it snug upon any sized hand would complete the solution.

There could even be gloves that come pre inner wrapped so that the fighter simply puts his hand within the wrapping inside the gloves as the glove goes on.

Someone could become rich on this idea.

          • Do MMA fighters wrap their hands under the small gloves? What are the rules or conventions over there? They have to retain their full grip, I suppose.

            • They didn't use to when they started using gloves, but now MMA fighters use wraps as well.

              • And Dempsey would kick the ass of most heavyweights today.

He wouldn't mate, and really you must know that
Custom built for early versions of Evander & Haye
                  But that's about it really

                  • So he'd struggle with the likes of a Bermaine Stiverne? Really? And Anthony Joshua? I doubt it. I could see Wilder giving Dempsey problems, but that's about it. Now, if you went back just a few years then I could see knowing that he'd get dominated or stopped later by Vitali, but gets to the chin of Wlad. Why must I know that? Because Dempsey had a weak chin or he never hurt a bigger opponent?

                    • Dempsey wouldn't struggle with today's behemoths any more than Saddler would struggle against today's super middleweights. Who thinks Benny Leonard would struggle with Kovalev? Barney Ross vs Tony Joshua, anyone?
