Who are these 15 heavies occupying the spots before Wlad? I dont think people throwing out the "not top 15-20" understand the big drop off after Ali and Louis.

If there were a time machine that allowed you to bring all the heavyweight champs in their primes to the current day, Vitali would be the odds on favorite to win any tournament involving them all. Lennox and Wlad would be close seconds.

People don't like it, for a variety of reasons, but it's the truth.

Vitali lost against an old, overweight Lewis, how can he be an odd favorite to win a tournament including a man who actually defeated him?.

As for Wladimir not being in a top 15, boxrec has implemented a criteria to rank fighters. It is far from being the bible of boxing, but it can give an idea.

            1 Muhammad Ali
            2 Joe Louis
            3 Ezzard Charles
            4 Sam Langford
            5 Rocky Marciano
            6 Floyd Patterson
            7 Harry Wills
            8 Max Schmeling
            9 Larry Holmes
            10 Evander Holyfield
            11 Gene Tunney
            12 Lennox Lewis
            13 Jack Johnson
            14 Joe Frazier
            15 Sonny Liston

[ These ratings are not influenced by subjective views or opinions, but are wholly dependent upon the bouts contained in the BoxRec server database.

There admittedly are inaccuracies and anomalies, especially in the All-Time ratings, because of incomplete records in the BoxRec database. Although a boxer’s own record may be complete, his opponents’ records may not be complete. Pre-World War II boxers in particular are at somewhat of a disadvantage. ]

I am not saying I agree with everything in this list, it's just a way of showing how an imperfect but unbiased scoring has Lewis in the top 15, Tyson doesn't make it into a top 20. By comparison, I don't find ranking Wladimr amongst the best 20's while still active such an insulting rating.

Charles at number, Langford at 4, Schmeling at 8. Wills, Patterson e.t.c.

Yet George Foreman is nowhere to be seen. It might be unbiased but its not even slightly realistic.

Hell, it has Tunney who only had 6 fights at the weight.

Im glad that list wasnt written by an actual person.

When did Joe Louis overcome the odds in the ring?

The best version of Vitali lost to a 260 Pound overweight semi shot/fully shot Lewis.

The 2nd best version of Vitali quit against a 5'11 former Middleweight.. I don't think Vitali is the odds on favorite to win anything aside from being the odds on favorite as the 1st guy to quit among top 30 heavyweights.

How many Prime top 30 Heavyweights throughout boxing history has quit during a fight?
