I read an article the other day that he had reluctantly decided to retire at 50 because he cannot make anyone fight him. What do you guys think?
So Evander Holyfield is finally retired?

Ah geez really? He just turned 50 on Friday. So why? Does he really need the money that badly? And if he does, is fighting the only way for him to make any decent money? These guys can't become trainers or commentators or do commercials of any kind, maybe even invest some of their money? Great, now I have to wait even longer to rewatch his career set. Is there a link to an article where Evander said this?Comment

Utterly baffling. It staggers the mind that someone can go through such scarily huge amounts of money so easily. To also be so thick with it is mindboggling. Hire the best financial planner possible, get him to invest some and bank some, also to set up an emergency fund that can only be pulled in dire needs. Stuff ain't hard to do. Some people are just ****** bastards.Comment

Yeah ****** with money indeed. Plus legal troubles and all those kids to have to support. Nobody should have to still step in the ring at 50. There has to be a better way for Evander to earn money. There should be a law against fighting after the age of 50, it just sounds dangerous.
The other crazy and kind of scary thing about this too is in some of the interviews I've seen with Holyfield a few years ago where he said he believed he could be heavyweight champion again. I don't know if he meant one alphabet belt or undisputed, but either way, the guy sounded delusional. At his age, will someone really still grant Holyfield a license and still let him compete? And if so, why? Sounds really unsafe to me.Comment

If in 1990 someone told me that in 2012 I'd have the choice of bank account's of either Mike Tyson...Evander Holyfield...Buster Douglas...or both Tyson's and Holyfield's combined...I'd have picked the Tyson/Holyfield choice and would have missed the boat. Douglas only had only one major payday in his career for about 20 million and did well with it. Tyson and Holyfield earned about 500 million combined and have very little of it.Comment

The heavyweight division was in such bad condition (it's definitely getting better quickly) that he almost didComment
