  • Gasper Ortega induction into hall of fame

For those of us in our sixties, Gasper was a Friday night favorite. How great it was anticipating an upcoming Gasper fight. Although never a champion,
He was a crowd favorite who always gave a top performance. I believe he belongs in the IBHOF. Your thoughts on this.

He had a few nice wins, but plenty of losses too. Getting KO'd in your only title fight usually doesn't get you into the HOF.

Being stopped TWICE in 176 pro fights is not exactly shabby! His title loss was to Emile Griffth not to shabby there also!
Back then fighters were "full time" and if you check on his losses you'll see their the fellows that traded wins & losses because they fought each other alot. They had easier fights in between their main go bouts but thats what real full time fighters did!!
He is a personal friend and taught me to fight inside Mexican style and he was one of tuffest men in the history of the welterweight division. He took ALL comers on and if you got "El Indio" to take a step back you were doing something!! This guy hit hard to the body and had a chin of granite!!
It always amazes me when some fan runs to the records and looks at a loss as if its the end of the world!! Gaspar Ortega is one of the most respected fighters of all time and he should be in anyones hall of fame, thats how good he was!!! A favorite in the "Garden" to Hawaii and someone who this day works with kids teaching them boxing!! Great man, incredible fighter! Ray.

beat kid gavilan, benny paret , tony demarco lost to carmin basilio while giving away 10 lbs and still went the distance. The ko loss to emile was before the paret tragedy when emille was more agressive. He also lost a split nod to emile prior to that as well. Looks like he fought the best of his era. No fragmented titles at that time to win either.
