If they had fought I'd pick Foster to knock Jones out cold.

    That's not even debatable.

Despite Foster's LHW resume being underwhelming, IMO.
Thanks for answering my question guys. I learned that Jones ducked people and that "Foster has a better resume than Jones at LHW." Answers my question 100%.

I took your question as rhetorical. Many great champions didn't have great opposition. All they can do is fight regularly against rated contenders. But your sarcasm is noted.

No, I wasn't being rhetorical. I completely don't understand the notion that Foster's light heavyweight resume is leagues better than Jones' and the only people on his light heavy resume that I know of are **** Tiger and Mike Quarry (who wasn't too good). Am I overlooking boxers who he beat? That's my question. I'm not pretending to be an expert on his career.

Jones at light heavy has wins over possible future HOFers in Hill and Tarver and a pretty long list of wins against title holders (some who were decent) and future title holders (Gonzales became lineal). The win over past-it McCallum and Harding, who was good but never got a title, also are decent.

I read somewhere bob foster was the first fellow to cut ali. Is that true?
I have not seen foster fight much but I will pick jones because of his movement.

Quarry was 35-0 when he fought Foster. Anyone who saw that fight would understand why his career declined afterwards. Rondon had won 20 straight and was the WBA titleholder when Foster absolutely demolished him in a unification fight. That was Foster's best performance and Rondon's career went straight downhill afterward, even though he went the distance with Earnie Shavers later that same year. Finnegan and Fourie were solid challengers who Foster beat in their home country. It was hard to get Roy Jones too far away from the Gulf Coast because he got a bad decision in an amateur fight.

To me the difference between those two title reigns is that unlike Foster, Roy left some questions unanswered. When Foster went for the heavyweight title he challenged a prime Joe Frazier. Roy juiced up and cherry picked John Ruiz.

Good post. Foster got destroyed and Roy had an excellent performance when they moved up to heavy though. Foster was also naturally bigger while Roy had to jump up to light heavy.

If it had been Roy fighting Frazier and Foster fighting Ruiz, the results may have been quite different.
