Undoubtedly. He beat or drew with all time great fighters from lightweight to heavyweight. Had Jack Johnson avoiding a rematch for years and Jack Dempsey claiming he was the only man he was afraid of. If Langford fought in an era where he didn't have to carry fighters because of his color I have little doubt everyone would regard him as the p4p greatest ever as I already do.

You can only imagine how awesome Langford's record would be if he were able to compete in his own weight class in fair fights.

Middleweight and light heavyweight is where he was best suited in my opinion. The fact he pretty much toyed with Stanley Ketchel and went easy in their 6 round non title fight in order to get a title shot is testament to that. The guy was a marvel.

Sam was a great one

Sam fought many fights "with handcuffs on" -- meaning he had to go easy on the other guy if he wanted to work again. One could only image how could he could have been at 150-160 if he was given a level playing field.
