Sadly though, that beating ruined him. Before that he would have done well and been a champion for some time at 154. He'd have won some and lost some, but he had some good wins over a faded Wilfred Benitez, Ayub Kalaue, Charlie Weir and the undefeated champ Mihara.
A bit more seasoning would have done him well, but his managers thought him ready after beating Kalule, Mihara, (two champs) Weir and Guiden (two top ten guys) for what everyone thought was an over the hill, fat, shot Duran. It turned out he wasn't.
After that fight, he just wasn't the same. Even the Benitez win couldn't get him back to his previous form and then a couple of years later he was dead unfortunately. Sad. Managers can make or break a fighter and that was a case of breaking one.

In that Hands Of Stone Book Duran says when talking to someone at the time "You'd think I killed him (Moore) the way he's (Iran) talking! But its HIM im going to Kill!" Vintage Cholo

I often wondered if Moore had gotten more experiance before winning the title how he would have done. At the time he was looking pretty good and there were concerns for Duran at the time because he supposedly was in over his head and was an underdog but in hindsight, Moore could have used more experiance IMO.

I agree that Moore should have had more fights before winning the title, or, especially, fighting a guy like Duran. As a manager, your primary obligation to your fighter is to maximize the money he makes. You should bring him along ...but, I think, everybody will take the money 95% of the time.
