  • What were your scores for Toney vs Jirov?

First of all, this was a great fight that probably cemented the HOF career of James Toney.

But what fight were they watching ringside? I had Toney winning that fight clearly. He put on a boxing clinic. Rolling and slipping punches and landing clean hard shots on the inside.

This is one of the worst score cards I've ever seen from Lederman. He was giving. Jirov rounds for wild ineffective aggression. Did anyone think this was a close fight?

I haven't seen it for a while so I don't know what my exact score was. It was a close fight though. Toney scored the lone KD and Jirov also lost a point, so I think it was the right decision. But the width of the official decision was atrocious. I think they gave Jirov 2 rds on every card or something like that. Jirov's best punches were shots landed to the body, which judges tend to overlook. I think it was a closer fight than the judges gave Jirov credit for. Toney certainly did not dominate Jirov imo.

This fight was closer live than it was watching on tv. I didn't score it, but going into the 12th I had it neck and neck. Watching it later on television I had Toney by close UD.

I just watched this fight a few days ago. When I saw it when it happened, I thought Toney won clearly, and I thought the same the other day. See, dingbats like Lederman, and many others, score "busyness", so they give a guy extra points for throwing 112 punches a round, even if he only lands 14. What should happen there, is the "busy" guy should lose points in the 'effective aggression' category, because, obviously, 14/112 is not effective. And the other guy should gain points for defense and ring generalship. And if that guy is landing 44 out of 72 himself, like Toney did in at least one round, then he should get points for clean effective punches, while the other guy, the "busy" guy, also loses points for defense.
If you count it that way, Toney won just about every round. Honestly, I remember being stunned that the judges got it right.

I couldn't possibly remember what score I had, but that fight is absolutely bad ass. Have it on DVD and my harddrive, watched it at least 10 times.

Been too long to remember a score, but I had Toney close.

The knockdown pretty much solidifed the win for him.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Tony landed half his punches in that fight. Crazy accurate the whole night.

But Manny Stewards reaction to the KD in round 12 was classic. It's like he forgot he was on TV. Lol
