An inevitable question, I will be controversial and say that Sands was better, Rose had great skills but I don't think he had the same work ethic and smoked like a chimney. Rose was a giant for a Bantamweight, Sands was a biggish MW and was like Darcy,.... so far ahead of all the aussies of his time at MW or above, (in fact Darcy is far ahead of any Aussies at MW or above for all time...) I would rate Sands as #2 Australian from WW and above behind Les. A dream fight I think for Aussies would be Rose V Fenech, Rose may edge that one one points but wouldn't be allowed any mistakes.............----------------------------- To me Rose did not reach his full potential. Sands of course was denied a shot at SRR due to his tragic death. Its just my opinion, and not a popular one in Aussie boxing circles these days but the old timers would probably side with my view. An important thing to remember was that Rose was seen by Harada and his camp as an easy'ish defence,... Dave Sands was feared by all, and for that reason COULD NOT get a title shot... and I dont think his death robbed him of a shot, I doubt if he was ever going to get that opportunity....................... Dave Sands,, was like an Australian Charley Burley. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope that satisfies your curiosity mate.

I did a thread about Dave Sands quite some time ago and Rooster posted the same vid back then.. Sands was a terrific fighter and had things been different, would've stood a geat chance vs Robinson.. But like you, i think he may have been deemed as a wee bit riskey..

And how is Rooster?.. He's a good'n.. I've had some good laughs with him on here.

I got a mail from him as an introduction,,, the Eastern Suburbs Roosters (now the Sydney Roosters) is our Rugby League team...... produced more Kangaroos than any other team,, and is the only club to have played in every single season,, a great club, just the last 10 years have been a bit ordinary................ and thanks for the backup on Sands, I dont for one second believe he was a better fighter than Robinson, but Ray was gettin on a bit by then, and Dave was in his prime.
