  • Duran vs Simms

Duran looked so good in this fight if it wasn't for the heat I think he would have had this in the bag. MW fight or not.

Duran was amazing, so often he'd undertrain for fights and between fights he would balloon up in weight. You would see this in his less important fights like Zeferino Gonzalez and Pat Lawlor. But for big fights he rose to the occasion.
Against Simms he looked good but something tells me that if it were a title fight a different Duran would have shown up.

He could only get to WW and be close to what he was as a Lightweight! He was NO Middleweight by any chance, and he did walk around at 210lbs after he just fought for a pay day so his training was to get in shape and not work on his skills the way he did years before. Once any fighter exceeds his prime fighting weight its just a question of time before their performance goes down. It happena to ALL fighters and the ones that have success after their prime weight is gone are the very talented ones like Ali and Duran who could still win when their 20 to 25lbs heavier. You can't compare Ali at 210 to Ali at 225 or 230lbs? Does Duran look as good at 147lbs as he did at 135lbs? Thats why Tyson at 225 can't compare to Tyson at 205 to 210 he couldn't maintain the style of boxing he was taught at the higher weight those are the facts because I saw and handled Tyson when he was 14 to 16 years old and had fighters on the same cards he was on as a young pro. It happens to ALL fighters and always will happen. Ray Corso
