Jack Dempsey threatened ?

Does somebody have info on the death threats that were sent to Dempsey ? Who could have had something against him ? For what interests ? Who ? I want to know.

I was watching this old footage of his fight against Gibbons, and they made reference to death threats in the text, explaining Dempsey was escorted to the ring by his bodyguard.

I wouldn't have expected a white fighter from that period to be threatened in such a way.

I would guess it had to do with his bad press about getting a pass to not fight in the war. A lot of people frowned upon that and he got a LOT of bad press for it.

I'm sure an extremist would have no problem threatening him for that, as there are people who are very extreme and threaten to kill people for even more ridiculous things.

This is the only thing I could find. The Gibbons fight was probably dubbed over at a later date when they made mention of this. If there were other threats that were taken seriously than surely there would be some report of it.

probably to do with draft dodging if not that perhaps something to do with organised crime which was getting more influence in the sport at the time
