Mainly it's because he seems to have been a prick, and between the Hagler and Hearns fights late in his career I can't stand the gifts he got in those fights.

                Hagler
                Hearns and Duran even
                Leonard.

I loved Ray Leonard when I first got into boxing, and he was one of the reasons why I got into it. But, over time I learned more about the game and other fighters...started liking others more and liking Ray less. Now, I think about how awesome all of them were, and how great the game was when they were on top.

                  1: Leonard
                  1½: Hearns
                  2: Hagler
                  4: Duran

I used to like Hearns the most, but the Leonard-Hagler fight gave SRL the top spot for me. I used to hate Hagler for beating my fav. Hearns, but after his retirement I've grown much more appreciative of his whole career.

Same reason people dislike Mayweather today, but worse, because he mostly got away with it in the eyes of the public.

Duran. And by some margin. The guy was a force of nature. He tore through the lower weights skittling plenty of good guys on the way. Many said he could never replicate his form going up and he proved them wrong. Indeed, Duran seemed to spend his entire life proving people wrong. I mean, the Barkley fight was just ferocious. What was he - 38? And yet he still retained the energy to not just fight like a 20 year-old but bludgeon a seriously powerful hitter to mush.

The "no mas" stuff was unfortunate. But in a strange kind of way it simply adds to the theatre. Duran was at times a walking talking Greek tragedy. And yet he always managed to rise phoenix-like from the ashes. The guy was pure Rock 'n Roll.

                      Next - Hagler, Hearns, Leonard.
