When you speak of greatness, do you mean resumes or actual fighting skills?

Anyway I rate him higher than De Leon and Quarry. Curry and Eubank are much closer and I want to see how the rest of his career plays out first.

That win over Griffith is just so damn impressive though.

            he knocked him out

he hit him so hard with that left hand citron thought it was a headbutt

after 3 minutes of complaining he was allowed to continue

never seen anything like it, lol.

martinez has had a very strange career.

he was stopped in his first big fight (you guys may or not remember "sergio gabriel" losing to margarito via stoppage )

and since then he's had quite a unique run.

            all over the place
mix some four rounders in there

            and then boom
smashes bunema and gets back on HBO. max kellerman promptly changes his underwear.
            busts citron up
foty candidate against williams. best MW action fight since pavlik and miranda, with a boatload of skill that miranda and pavlik lacked.
fuucks up kelly pavliks face and becomes undisputed MW champion
just tears him apart. kelly was bleeding from everywhere.

and then he starts to develop this left hand out of almost nowhere
(the guy is right handed for god's sake!)

            boom
KO of the year against williams (who was on the p4p list, for the record, and was "the most feared man in boxing" at the time)

and then he fights dzinziruk and just keeps dropping him
i was at that fight. he just kept dropping the guy. he'd hit him on the chin and his legs just disappeared. and dzinziruk had never even been down. sure, dzinziruk is no world beater, especially at MW, but the guy has no muscle memory of getting dropped or even losing.

that's where we are at right now.
not enough in the least to evaluate him historically.
he's still basically in his prime

we need to see what he does with it.

Maravilla Martinez is an amazing fighter, a class act, a potential future HOF'er, and a worthy successor to Marvelous Marvin Hagler as a Middleweight Champion of the World.

Carlos Monzon + Marvelous Marvin Hagler = Sergio Maravilla Martinez

Benton too, I think he is greater than Martinez.

An Argentinian Middleweight Champion who calls himself Marvelous.

Whose biggest win (KO Williams) parallels that of Hagler's biggest win (KO Hearns)
