Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Terrance Alli

this fight is a perfect example of why I think Chavez is one of the greatest combination punchers of all time. His combos in this fight were ridiculous, especially the ones that finished off Ali.

At one point in the fight I remember Chavez throwing 7 or 8 left hands in a row and landing them all. damn.
ah, there it is. at about 3:08.

Ali was a tough bastard and pretty highly ranked at the time. Im pretty sure this fight ruined him.

Theres no need for a HL video. The whole fight, start to finish is amazing. Credt to Ali for putting up one hell of a fight.
Chavez was such a machine tho.

You know a lot of people believe that Julio was at his best when he was very young and at his lightest weight. But take a look at Chavez in the early '90's. He was perhaps at his strongest as he not only out-willed his opponents but overpowered them. The Alli and Haugen fights were a perfect example. Also, if you get a chance watch the two Taylor fights. Many have made the mistake of focusing just on Meldrick's speed and boxing prowess. But, Julio had done some major damage to him and I believe that was a big part of why he was never the same fighter afterward. And he still had retained a lot of his speed.

Chavez pretty much walked through Alli and put a beating on him. It was impressive. It was also his last fight before Whitaker which is why I don't buy that Chavez "got old" in the Whitaker fight. He was considered the number 1 pound for pound fighter during this period.

I remember Alli was pissed off on referee Carlos Padilla in the post-fight interview, and even Chavez dont like his refereeing that night.

Chavez was actually planning a non-title bout on a Terry Norris undercard in San Diego the following month, I hate those non-title fights that time, good thing it was scrapped, and they realized it, to trained longer heading towards a big fight with Whitaker.
