    Thoughts On Billy Petrolle?

    Seems darn underrated to me.

Wins over Tony Canzoneri, Jimmy McLarnin, Battling Battalino x2, & Sammy Fuller.

He fought ten current or past world champions and was victorious against five of them.

162 bouts(strongly believed to be over 250) and only ever stopped 3 times. He really did fight the best of his era and altough he lost more than he won against them, he did still manage to beat some of them.

I will look him up, He's a fighter worthy of interest. Some of his contemporaries said that Billy Petrolle was the greatest body puncher of them all. Great body punchers are rare today, they said he was totally debilatating,....... A dangerous opponent to say the least.

Well there you go then, most guys that fought Berg, ended up face down. It doesn't suprise me, The Kid's defence left a bit to be desired, but it's hard to think of a bloke that gave more excitement and value for money. All fans knew that Kid Berg always brought it to the ring, they knew it would end up with his opponent out cold,.... or Jack flat on his face. Billy Petrolle filled out as a true MW, and if Berg didn't get him outta there, those awesome body punches must have made Berg think he was fighting a HW.

          Petrolle! Top 25 LW

I would put him in my top 25 LW's for sure, I have watched all available film of him & read anything I could find, he was a solid tough fighter, but you can see his shortcomings in the fights available & see why most of the greats would have beaten him, but to be ranked top 25 LW is no small matter, since it may be the deepest Division in boxing history, he would have given any LW a good solid fight before losing.

            Very good fighter. Very underrated.

A lot of people were against his HOF induction if memory serves me correct.

Shows how far the HOF has fallen.

He is an absolute HOF'er, without question.
