Well if you have a prime Mike Tyson hit you three times with his left hook in the face and you tell him to hit you as hard as he can every time and your options are........

    1. Boxing glove

    2. MMA glove

    3. Bare fist

Im sure that he hits just as hard with each of the three options because his power (pounds per square in PSI) isnt going to go down just because hes wearing a glove or an even bigger boxing glove or even bare fisted. Hes is going to punch just as hard with any of the three so its not a question of what hits harder between a gloved fist or a bare one but what kind of damage do you prefer?

A boxing glove being bigger and having a larger surface area will spread out the force of the impact over a larger area and concuss you and leave you KTFO sleep but not all cut up.

An MMA glove will concentrate the same force over a smaller area and put you to sleep just as easily and maybe break a bone in your face due to the smaller more concentrated point of contact.

A bare knuckle fist will do the same and KO you real quick but on top of that you will have a fractured face and some nasty cuts to go with it because the knuckles will make contact first and all the force will be concentrated on the knuckles.

Neither of these options hit harder than the other, its the effect that the different options give you that matters and to me if somebody asked me which one I would chose if I had to get hit by Iron Mike in his prime I would chose a boxing glove because I would want to stay as far away from his bare fists as possible.
    Good points, great post...

    We should ask Mitch Green.

I just think a fighter (particularly a boxer whose only weapon is his fists) with boxing gloves on can put more into the actual punches without having to be too concerned with hurting and/or breaking their hand so they are free to put everything into the punch, resulting in more powerful and painful impact. The less protection I have on my hand, the more I have to take off the shot.

If I'm fighting a guy outside a bar, I am hitting him as hard as I can....I'll worry about what happens to my hands afterwards.

nobody can survive a bare tyson-hook.

With boxing gloves, yes there are some people who survived. Sometimes i watch them.

I just find it funny that so many dummies think that a Boxing glove is just "padding" and don't realise how hard it really is. They damn near make you believe boxers wear pillows on their fists.

I'll tell you what, there is indeed a difference in the feel of getting hit by Reyes or Everlast/Ringside gloves. Reyes gloves felt harder, especially to the body.

That makes sense in theory but in reality u throw every shot as hard as u can and worry about ur hands AFTER and IF they got hurt

Biggest way to disprove this, stab yourself with a needle, then stab yourself with a pencil.

@ghns1133 You don't have to try it for us, it's a hypothetical situation.
