yea his back was really messed up, he tried to bend down to pick something up and couldnt get back up.. and that would've been really messed up with his mauling style.

He stated that he had promised his wife he would retire (by a certain date more or less if I recall) when he gave the press conference. Ironically the same woman he cheated on outrageously

Had Rocky taken one more fight, who do you think he should/would have fought and how would he fare?
I don't think Rocky had anybody left, Liston was still unknown and Patterson was not ready, maybe Nino Valdez ( a SHW ), Rocky would have destroyed that fella.I think Rocky knew himself better than anybody and he was sick of being ripped off by that crook Al Weill.

            Patterson!

He should have stayed and fought Patterson, there was a lot of talk & buildup for Floyd, it was'nt like he was an unknown when Rocky retired, so he should have fought him in a war for no more than 8 rounds & Floyd makes a good showing of it & most likely like Walcott against Rocky, would be winning on points at the time of a devastating Knock out, then the people that cry Rocky fought no one and he wasnt that good, would have cried something else, Floyd was too young & experienced at the time or who knows, but if they had fought and marciano won, they would have come up with more excuses.

Floyd was very fast and Marciano had slowed down quite by that point. Personally I think it would have been a dangerous fight for Rocky. Someone like Tommy Jackson would have been safer IMO.

I saw an interview clip rocky did for Australian tv and he actually started training for a purposed bout with ingo but lost the desire. It would have been nice to see 50-0 would it not?

Yeah read about that possible Ingo fight. On Boxing's Best, his friend and brothers said he lost the desire as well. One of them even said he didn't like training anymore, which he did so much of in his career, even no longer liked the smell of a gymnasium.

Agreed, Patterson seems to get a bashing in these parts for being a china chinned guy who avoided the dangerous matchups. But I think he'd have been a serious risk for Rocky.

If Patterson hadn't actually met and near as dammit completely outclassed Archie Moore in five rounds; how many of us would in hindsight have predicted it?

Patterson was quite something in the mid-late 50s, maybe fast enough to decision the Rocky who had struggled with Moore in his last fight.

Agreed patterson does get a lot of bashing due to Liston demolishing him but it's not really fair -- liston was a beast back then. I think floyd would have been a real difficult fight for Rocky especially with talk of his injuries but having said that I'd be surprised if Rocky didn't wear him down in the latter half of the fight and possibly stop him late.
