  • Lennox's chin

Word I hear the most in between those two words would be glass, and I've never really seen someone argue with it (seeing it in the wrong places I guess?)

Sure he was no Chuvalo, but he took some hard shots from Tua and Vitali most notably. I'm sadly not all that knowledgeable about Lewis (he's next on my to learn list) but at a glance the idea that his chin was glass or even average looks a little silly.

    Hoping to be enlightened!

    Weak? No

Unreliable? Yes....as two one-punch KO losses to lesser foes are undeniable evidence of.

Lennox's chin was made of the thinnest glass known to man. Vitali, Tua and Bruno hit like a bunch of girls.

Shaky or questionable more so then glass. I don't think he could have survived long in the 90s Heavyweight division if his beard was pure china. A below average chin? Sure. A godawful chin? No.

I wouldn't call it "Glass" but more like a smooth ocean without a ripple. Drop a pebble in it and it crumbles.

Seriously though, he had a seriously flawed chin. In a thread started a while back, when asked how many legit ATG heavies were known to go down very early in a fight (as Lennox did), and be glossy eyed stumbling around and into the ref as Lennox did, the answer was 0 (without some controversy). Only Lennox was cracked in the chin as early as the second round by one punch and went down like a sack of bricks. The best one Dempsey hater could come up with was his fight with Jim Flynn, which is surrounded with controversy.

If people want to fantasize about Lennox having this great footwork and punching power and jab, that's one thing, but to believe he had a solid or even good chin is stretching your fantasy a little too far.

His knockout losses seem more a lapse in concentration than a bad chin. If that weren't so both guys he lost should have turned his lights out again and guys like Vitaly, Tyson, Tua, Holyfield, Mercer and Morrison all should have would have also put him to sleep.

Anybody who truly watched all of Lewis' fights and still concludes that he has anything but an above average chin is simply lying to himself.

a 1 punch KO defeat is not the end all of a boxer's chin.

Duran was 1 punch ko'd. Carlos Baldomir recently too. Yet they were known for their outstanding punch resistance.

How many more times do people have to explain that the punches that are the most damaging are the ones you don't see? Those 2 power shots caught Lewis when he didn't see them, and they're pretty much the only knockdowns he suffered.

He could take one hell of a shot.
