Promoter Butch Lewis Dead at 65

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/25/sp...t-65.html?_r=1

Where does Lewis rank among promoters? Was he well-liked? Hated? Respected? Underhanded? Flamboyant? What was the consensus on this guy? I didn't really know much about him.

He was Greg Page's main promoter before he was "stolen" by Don King, and adding with the needed desire to fight, who have probably had a better career if he stayed with him.To answer your question, I think Butch could be a bit of everything you mentioned, according to whoever you talked to.Michael Spinks, for one, would probably say respected, Don King might say hated, though time has passed since those two really had to deal with each other.

Butch was a fun character, a great manager.

      Pretty snapper dresser too...

I love the way he tells the story of going into Mike Tyson's dressing room in 1988 before the Michael Spinks fight and the way he described Mike punching holes in the wall, knowing that his little guy Michael gotta fight THAT.

      RIP Butch Lewis.
