The "how did you score..." thread

Obviously with judging being such a subjective art, we all come to different interpretations. The purpose of this thread is if there is a contentious fight, or just one you see differently from the norm, you can ask others how they saw it.

I watched Mayweather-De La Hoya earlier and I had it 8-3-1 Mayweather. It wasn't anything like I remembered it - the standard narrative is Oscar was beating Floyd with the jab, he began to tire in the second half and Mayweather edged it - Mayweather was, by his standards, active, very accurate and frequently made De La Hoya miss badly at close quarters. Moreover, he looked like he could have picked it up at any time.

    Gentleman.

I had it 9-3 for Mayweather. At best Oscar won 4 rounds. What a blah fight.

I'll be honest about this one. I expected Floyd to do a masterclass, but he didn't.

Watching it live from the UK with bleary eyes at five in the morning I actually felt that it was a close fight......the closest fight that Floyd had ever had.

It was only on rewatching that Floyd's terrific defensive work could be appreciated as De La Hoya unloaded his flurries. But some judges might have rewarded Oscar's aggression and punch output higher.

          I had it 10-2.

But, I wasn't impresed with Floyd. It was his huge stage to show what he can do and he didn't do nearly as much as he can and I think he knew that.

At the time I thought he had blew his chance at super stardom but tuns out he didn't.

I had it 8-4 in favor of Mayweather which would give me a scorecard of 116-112 for Floyd.

I can't see how anyone could have had De La Hoya winning more than four rounds let alone getting a draw or a win here.

It proved to me that Mayweather is a great fighter, but not a great Welter (even if the bout was at 154). A young, prime De La Hoya would've split a series of fights with Mayweather, & Mosley may well have, too. He's not in the elite category above 140lbs, all-time.

Although I disagree he would have split a series was Oscar and Shane at WW I do agree that he hasn't proven to be an elite WW by any means.

Mayweather won handily while taking as little punishment as possible. The fight ****** and I was delighted that they never had a rematch.
