Well he was spot on when he was talking about how he would beat Tyson, I think you're right there. Even at that age he could give Tyson trouble with his jab, nevermind the footwork!

My point was that once Ali's speed started to desert him, it became clear that he never had a great grasp on some of the fundamentals. Sadly this is what I see with Roy Jones Jr. today.

Holmes however had great fundamentals, hence why he was able to keep going when he'd slowed down considerably.

Yes, I must admit I'd lean towards a Holmes win over Tyson if they met in their respective primes. He'd have some torrid moments, but I've got a feeling he would have a good shot at a decision win over prime Tyson.

As for certain reflex fighters having poor fundamentals to fall back on, yea Roy Jones is probably the best example......followed shortly by Naseem Hamed!

Anyway, its been interesting hearing your views. You seem like a nice chap and a welcome addition to the forum.

Reading the non-stop boxing forum scared me into straightening up.

      Thank you for the welcome

        Ali, probably on points.

Louis always had trouble with guys who boxed well and had quick feet, so Ali is a nightmare matchup. A lot of people are mentioning the Ali-Frazier fight as a ref. point, but if we do that - why not mention Louis being knocked out by Schmeling, or being outboxed by Walcott and Conn? If we're talking about the two fighters at their best, we're thinking of Ali around the second Liston fight, before the lay-off.

I'm certain Louis would land some big shots, but it's not like Ali was made of glass, and the difference in foot speed would be key here to Alis sucess.
