Who has more punching power? Dempsey or Marciano?

I've always wondered who had more power, I believe that Dempsey s better, but then it terms of power Marciano had a devastating right hand and Dempsey had the right hand and the left hook.

Any suggestions?

Close call, but I'll go with Dempsey overall.

Dempsey had rather more speed to go with his power too.

That said, the Marciano Suzi Q right did look pretty nasty!

Both men could turn a fight with one punch (Sharkey, Walcott, Tunney, Charles could all attest, among otgers) & I see this as a very close call.

I am going to give it to Marciano, just on the strength of his shots not benefitting from the type of velocity Dempseys enjoyed, the Mauler figuring to have markedly swifter gloves than the Blockbuster. Its more of a feeling than a science, though.

I rather like Dempsey to win a fire-fight between them, for what thats worth.

Dempsey was well-known for such generosity toward other fighters. I wouldnt put too much stock in that.

Both guys have some pretty astonishing fish stories about their power.

Dempsey shattering Willard's cheek into what, like seven pieces with his first comitted left hook and Marciano sending pieces of poor Carmine Vingo's skull flying around the ring. It feels like a cop-out to say dead even, though, so I'm going to say Rocky. He did on power alone, Dempsey had some seriously fast hands.

Don't sleep on Marciano's left hook. He took Carmine Vingo and Harry Matthews out with it.

I'll give Rocky the slight edge. He was definitely more heavy-handed than Dempsey, yet still capable of explosions (Walcott KO obvious example).

Marciano. Somebody else put it well already. Power was more important for Marciano and he had the same power through a 15 round fight.

I will always say that Marciano had more power. I would probably even go with Marciano winning a fight between each other. Reason being is I think Dempsey is so much faster and I think his style was more about speed and overwhelming his opponent with punches from everywhere. Marciano was a lot slower but had more strength in his shots.
