Your thoughts on Vicente Saldivar?

In my eyes a very underrated fighter, hes usually not mentioned among Mexican greats nor among the best southpaws of all time, despite being both. Interesting boxing style as well, that combined a sort of brawling mindframe with clever counter shots to the head and body.

One of my favourite boxers of all time, love all his fights especially his trilogy with Winstone.

Skill wise he's a top 3 southpaw with Pea and Hagler imo (May be some bias), the best boxer I've seen at parrying and he could mix it up brilliantly, definitely under rated and as you said he rarely gets mentioned among the Mexican greats when imo he is in the top 4.

I don't know if I would have him top-5, really. It's a very deep pool, discussing Mexico's finest. I do agree he is one of the true greats at the elite level in the country's history, though --- the likes of Barrera, Morales & Marquez are a notch below this, but will probably forever garner much more praise & attention, sadly.

I can only put Sanchez, Chavez, and Olivares above him. maybe Lopez as well, but thats it. and thats top 5. who else has an argument? You could say Zarate, but I flat out just couldnt agree with that.

Barrera and Morales will garner more praise and attention because they had many many career defining wins. Saldivar doesn't have that.
