Leonard was also an under-rated puncher, & I think he'd hurt Whitaker, who'd shell-up in response, spoil, hold, & actually find a way to win some rounds --- some. Whitaker was a high-output fighter, despite his defensive prowess, but I just cannot see a way past Leonard's size, speed, strength, & versatility.

I actually rank Whitaker as the better man pound-for-pound, but he would really be up against it here at 147. I'll give Sweet Pea the benefit of the doubt & call this a decision loss, but Sugar Ray could & probably would hurt him at some stage.

Please tell me that was a joke

We need to take into consideration that this is Ray Leonards natural weight class and Whitakers 3rd weight class. The size disparity will is quite drastically wide in this match up.

I don't see Whitaker getting stopped and in fact I don't see Leonard hurting Whitaker. If Leonard hurt you, more than likely he will take you out. But, I don't see Leonard hurting Whitaker.

What I do see, is the bigger, stronger, and more active man using his size and blinding combinations to outwork the smaller Whitaker to a wide descision.

whitaker would have a hard time winning rounds
they are on a different level in terms of size and offensive potency

leonard decision. he's a bigger and stronger and more physical man, while still being an elite boxer. he's got the advantages on paper. four inches or so of height. five inches of reach. whitaker's best days were as a LW, while leonard's were at ww, and he was even a very good MW
and ray had a great chin, there's just no way whitaker would be potent enough to effect the fight to any real degree

no stoppage because whitaker was not only hard to hit, he was a tough mother****er
            leonard on the cards
probablly at least 10 rounds to five, and i'm being generous because i'm a sucker

if anybody on this forum is consistently overrated other more than locche, it's pernell whitaker.

i remember almost falling out of my chair a few times seeing how high people ranked locche. there was a string of a few months where he was getting placed in the top 50 by guys on the forum consistently.
dude was getting serious forum traffic

same with whitaker. great fighter. tremendous talent. great resume seriously lacking in enough areas to get bumped down a good deal, especially when you're talking about him getting into a fight with an ATG WW

i mean top ten... really? i've seen it here.
you cant think of ten more accomplished fighters in the entire history of the sport?

everybody is entitlted to his opinion, of course
and that's mine and nothing more
i'm just calling it the way i see it

prime ray leonard and fighters like him at welterweight in terms of size, power, speed and excellent skills (terry norris?) are all wrong for pea IMO...

no KO but a clean and clear win for ray here...
