  • Marciano vs Chuvalo who wins and how?

I think this would be a phone booth type match with some one getting ko. Consider this George in his prime was 217 against Marciano 187. With George having a two inch height advantage which in this case would not mean nothing the way Chuvalo fights. Plus he has never been knock off his feet.

It would look like Frazier-Chuvalo, although it would probably last longer. Two different classes of fighter.

Well I sort of disagree but I do see your point. You see,you had a very deep pool of talented fighters in the heavyweight division. If Ali wasn't in the picture I think the landscape is wide open. Granted he did have 18 losses and he had almost double the fights. But 73 wins 64 by ko is no fluke. Of course I can't put him up there with the all time greats, but what would happen if you would of match him up with the heavies in the 80's or in todays heavyweight division minus the Klitschkos?

While I respect Chuvalo, I don't see him beating the top guys of the 80's (assuming that they are in respectable condition). Right now I'd place him in the second tier, but fights against Haye, Povetkin, Chambers, Adamek, etc. would be very entertaining.

Therein lays the problem: Those '80s Heavies rarely were in respectable condition.

True. That is a giant asterisk. If we're talking about Dokes, Page, Spoon, and others the result would probably depend on their condition for that specific fight. Their best beats Chuvalo, less than that is probably another story.

Hence why I don't think very highly of '80s Heavyweights. Lots of potential but ultimately boxing is a bottom-line sport and potential that's never reached doesn't count for anything on the final balance sheet. Lot's of squandered talent in that era.

                George was brave but

he was a catcher. With the exception of his fluky Quarry victory, there is no reason to believe he could take Marciano's sledge hammer blows. Similar to the Frazier fight.

That's exactly what I thought about this.
