I think its a 60/40 fight in favour of Ali,i think he would win a close decision, aside from being an incredible fighter hes not a good style match-up for joe and one of the only heavies in history id favour over Louis

Ali dances around Louis, exploits his massive advantage in footspeed and potshots him to a clear UD. Doubtful stoppage, but I wouldn't rule it out. Louis would have a lot of trouble with Ali, I think.

Styles make fights and the only version of Louis I would take to beat Ali is te one vs Schmeling II

Damn, I was going to suggest the Joe Louis Left hook, Right uppercut, Left counter jab combo myself. Little did I know someone had written a full article paralleling this to Norton. Really nice read.

I'm not one who falls under the Ali mystique. I've never been very impressed with his abilities, and have always felt Joe Louis displayed more skill, and Marciano displayed more determination. I dunno...the Frazier loss had a lot of impact on me. I think a hand full of fighters would have gotten Clay on that night. An ATG but not the ATG that's Joe....12 years mother ****er. C'mon.....

Always gotten to thinking Ali's hands-down approach would be the death of him against Louis' blitzing combinations. Somewhere around the tenth, Louis does him in. One of the problems would be Ali's inability to rattle Louis' focus --- the man just could not be shaken.

Hardly a given for either fighter, though. I still cannot shake the feeling Joe gets him.

I think Ali was far from invincible and Joe Louis would be hands down the greatest fighter he ever faced by a longshot. A very longshot. Joe Frazier was the best fighter Ali ever faced and we saw how that went. Yeah it was after his layoff but I don't buy that excuse, I just think Frazier is the kryptonite to Ali's style. Ali had never faced anybody near the caliber of Joe Louis and Ali is not going to land Pot shot after pot shot and be able to dance around on Joe Louis. Joe Louis could cut off a ring with the best of them and he had incredible hand speed and power.

It's a fight so you never know what could happen but on their best nights I would pick Joe Louis to win.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. Now I love Joe, just like the next man. But I think Ali's punching power and reflexes are being underestimated here. Joe was hittable, his defense was not the greatest. And Ali was a master of the set up. Yes Joe held the title for 12 long years(An amazing feat to this day), but lets not forget that he also had the bum of the month club. I'm not knockin it, I wish they fought as often during these days. Joe had a habit of leaving his right down really low, ****ed ready to drop the hammer. Dont think for a second that Ali wouldn't take advantage of that. One thing though Ali would not be able to dance as much cause Joe would cut the that ring off quickly, and try and run Ali in to that right hand.
