How Big Of A Ducker Was Larry Holmes?

I didn't think he was a ducker when he was champ. People say he avoided Page but he kept beating the guys that beat Page(Berbick, Witherspoon & Bey) and he tried to unify, even offered to put up the money for a Coetzee unification.

He fought close to everyone, but he did develope a habit of avoding anyone who gave him a tough night, even if they deserved a return fight.
Holmes' approach to his contemporaries was a little like that of Ray Leonard --- when it suited him to know you, a fight could be made, but when you weren't considered relevant (even if you were), you were shut out of the picture. Of course, when the shoe was on the other foot (Leonard after the first Duran fight, & Holmes following Spinks I) he'd move heaven & earth to get a rematch.Last edited by Wild Blue Yonda; 02-13-2011, 04:40 AM.

Holmes basically said he knew he could beat him but its a tough fight plus Pinklon had pissed him off with his trash talk so Larry would just take a couple of easy fights that he knew he'd win, he also said he had people in mind
