Not sure... but its a damned shame that Holmes never fought Foreman when they both share the same birth year of 1949.

    A tragedy really.

It was my understanding that he fought all the top guys of his era. It was just a weak era. Foreman was in retirement by the time Holmes hit his prime.

I didn't think he was a ducker when he was champ. People say he avoided Page but he kept beating the guys that beat Page(Berbick, Witherspoon & Bey) and he tried to unify, even offered to put up the money for a Coetzee unification.

Holmes vs Foreman was never a fight that could have happened or was mooted.

            Holmes avoided fighting Pinklon Thomas

He fought close to everyone, but he did develope a habit of avoding anyone who gave him a tough night, even if they deserved a return fight.

Holmes' approach to his contemporaries was a little like that of Ray Leonard --- when it suited him to know you, a fight could be made, but when you weren't considered relevant (even if you were), you were shut out of the picture. Of course, when the shoe was on the other foot (Leonard after the first Duran fight, & Holmes following Spinks I) he'd move heaven & earth to get a rematch.

I read an article from years back a few weeks ago, it was from when Holmes was approching Marciano's 49-0 record and they were asking him who he'd fight next, pinklon Thomas? Holmes basically said he knew he could beat him but its a tough fight plus Pinklon had pissed him off with his trash talk so Larry would just take a couple of easy fights that he knew he'd win, he also said he had people in mind

throughout his career Holmes always struggled with fighters who had a decent jab, Carl Williams, Bonecrusher, Witherspoon, Spinks with Holmes looking brilliant against those he fought who had a poor jab, Evangelista, Zanon, Cooney, Cobb, Shavers yet Pinklon Thomas had an incredible jab and would surely have given Holmes a difficult nights work
