  • How many top slick blacks did Duran fight before Leonard?

    Let me start by saying that I'm not trying to start a racial war here, I'm just curious.

    We all know that eventually Duran did face many top AA fighters after SRL, but how many did he face before he moved to welter?

    Ray Lampkin, Monroe Brooks and Saoul Mamby were top AA fighters that Duran beat before Leonard.

    'slick' has no real boxing meaning.

    If you mean 'hard to hit' and 'elusive', then Edwin Viruet fits the bill.

        I think it does...it's just hard to define. I define slick like the courts define pornography: I know it when I see it.

          theres some weird **** out there. kinds you would never think people could get off to by looking at it, but they do.

          so I disagree...
          on both accounts.

          slick simply means 'hard to hit' to me. and if thats what you mean, then simply just say that instead of taking forever to define a word with no true definition.

              Haven't you effectively defined it in this very thread, though? Heh. Slick means hard-to-hit --- I'd say you have your definition.

                some people have different definitions. Its not enough to be 'hard to hit'. Its also some other strange unintelligable qualities...

                personally I think that you should just describe the fighter in real terms, not one that a lot of people have different definitions for.

                  Sorry, but slick is one of those boxing words that gets thrown about a lot in boxing. I guess it refers to the ability of a fighter to hit and not be hit. BHop has been quoted as saying that the word describes the fighting style of AA fighters from the inner cities.

                  I found the Costello-Mamby fight here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-x7IwuDHkg

                  It's just one fight, but Mamby isn't much of a slickster. He is a mobile boxer, yes, but doesn't really roll, slip and slide effectively.

                    Mamby = slickster?

                    Based on the video, it would be a stretch to describe Mamby's style as slick.
