    James "buddy" McGirt, IBHOF material?

If you combine his boxing career and trainer career, I seriously believe he deserves it. I might be biased because I used to live in the same town as him, he's a really nice guy. Lets look at the stats

    Official boxing record: won 73 (KO 48) + lost 6 (KO 2) + drawn 1 = 80

K.O'd gold medalist Howard Davis Jr in 1 round
Had a few wars with ATGs whitaker and meldrick taylor

As a trainer he has trained

    Brewster
    Tarver
    adamek
    malignaggi
    gatti
    and many more

A decent boxing record, and decent students that he trained. What do you say? Am I reaching with this one?

I always liked Mcgirt. He could fight with the best of 'em and he handled himself with class outside of the ring. I don't know that he will make it in to the Hall of Fame but if he did I would not complain about it. Had he won his biggest bouts he would end up in there for sure. A class act and a class fighter...............Rockin'

Funny thing is, he deserves it more than a fighter like Gatti, who will probably get in and before Buddy at that.

On fighting merits, I would have to honestly say no. Likewise for training. He's had a decent enough run in both regards, I think, but decent enough isn't HOF-calibre. There should be a recognition of greatness in all candidates, & McGirt was not great in either category.

It sounds Overly harsh to say, because he gave us all so much & we loved him for it, but I will feel sick to my stomach when (not if) Gatti gets in. It will be a horribly poor choice --- recognise what he gave us in any other way, but not with a HOF ticket. Gatti was absolutely miles & miles away from that class.

Sad, but true. You can thank fanboy writers like Dan Rafael for that.

IMO the hall of fame is how much you have given to the sport of boxing, REMEMBER THEY HAD STALONE!! which I disagree....
And Mcguirt with the combination of fighting and training has given enough to get in IMO...

As a fighter or a trainer? Maybe. But as both for sure.

Definitely his career best. McGirt fought brilliantly that night.
