What is greater, having twenty consecutive and successful title fights or retiring undefeated with just over a handful of title fights?
What is the greater accomplishment?

Of course it comes down to who they beat, but just going of that I would say 20 consecutive, successful title fights quite easily as it shows that they have been successful against top contenders and champions, being undefeated is sometimes seen as a lack of good competition and just having a handful of title fight suggests that it's true and they haven't been fighting the best.Comment

I think Marciano fought more top...as in top 3....competition...but Holmes did fight a lot of good opponents as well.
I think Holmes had the better career based on his wins over Ken Norton and for his old man dominant win over Ray Mercer. those wins kind of tip the scale for me.Comment

generally the more fights the better, but if the competition was better for the few fights and the 20 fights were C+/B- fighters while the few fights were mostly A/A-s then i pick the few fights.Comment

I maybe a conspiracy theorist and may be off but I never really respected Marcianos record.
First off his career was 9 yrs...thats it.
His career wins especially in the beginning looks a bit like Julio Cesar Chavez jr...with a bunch of no names and some very bad records.
Then when he did fight big names they were old, Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles.......now this is when the conspiracy thing comes in.....An Italian heavyweight around the time of serious Italian gansters, when they were at basically the height of their strength Boxing was also bigger in those days. I think there could have been some influence to some of those outcomes....but that might be just me.Comment
