Greb never training, womanising and drinking was a myth too I believe he was a devoted family man until his wife sadly died. The guy fought every couple of weeks, how much gym work would he need to sharpen up?

Originally posted by phallus View Posti have read alot of stuff on greb and i don't think the barfight with walker ever happened, but it makes a good story for mickey to tell. the one that did happen was how greb got his title shot against johnny wilson, wilson kept ducking greb for a couple years until greb spread a rumor that'd he been doing some heavy drinking instead of training, so wilson thought, now i'll fight greb, this will be the only time. when they got in the ring wilson saw that it was all a lie and he caught such a bad beatdown he was happy to escape the ring with his life and didn't even care that he'd been fooled by greb and lost the middleweight title

Mhy great grandfather beat Mickey Walker twice early in his career.. Mick grew to be the real deal.. 3 or 4 weigght division champ when there was only 1 champion... my great grandfather's boxing alias was Shamus O'Brien he fought all the greats back then from Benny Leonard, KO Chaney, Leo Johnson, ROcky Kansas, etc... his final record was 26-50-10 somewhere around there.. but i do know he had a pretty bad alcohol problem and probably took fights half drunk alot of the time and trained hard for the other parts of the tyime

I havent heard too much about it but i read a while back after their bout which Greb won on points over 15 in 1925 that they met up and after a few drinks Mickey accused Greb of being a dirty fighter (which he seems to have been!) saying his favourite combination was a thumb to the eye followed by a thumb to the other eye! Before Harry could get his coat off to resume their fight Walker sucker punched him.
Ive also heard this is not true and that Greb never once lost in the streets.
Anybody shed any light on this?
