I was thinking about this earlier and wondering if maybe these could have been exaggerated movements for the benefit of the camera much the way movement was often exaggerated in silent film.

Could be in terms of loading up and slowness, but I imagine the form is legit. He was known as a slugger and this was the 20s, wouldn't be surprising.

i thought it was pretty good shadow boxing.

not the best but decent foot work like 3 times in the 15 or so seconds hes shadow boxing he steps back and to the left with the right foot first but hes incredibly fast as correcting it and is pretty fast overall with his foot work.

he also does a pretty good job of keeping his right up bringing his right up and just all around keeping it moving which takes alot away from the telegraphing of the loaded punches and which though loaded are still incredibly straight punches.

Greb was never known as a slugger. Does anyone really believe Greb clowning around with a 50-something Philadelphia Jack O'Brien is a real reflection of his abilities? It'd be like Manny Pacquiao sparring Sugar Ray Leonard.

My impression was he was a swarming, perpetual motion, aggressive fighter. I call that a slugger. Fighters like that rarely have perfect form, it runs counter to the style. Take it easy, I wasn't criticizing him.

Greb was more a boxer than a slugger. He didn't outslug people. His style was based on using speed, footwork, angles and elusiveness. Even in his day it was regarded as unorthodox bordering on crude but you can't argue with the results.

As far as I understand Greb Tunney 1, Greb Walker, and Greb Flowers 2 and 3 were filmed. As for will they turn up I think we are now hoping that someone transferred them onto more robust film as the sell by date on the old film has pretty much passed. Still hope though, the training footage of Greb only appeared in the 90's so it could still be floating around somewhere. Also I believe that some of the Flowers footage was included in an old film on Flowers life so there might be more chance of that turning up. I have a vague recollection I may have seen the Flowers film in my younger days but that might be an old mind playing tricks on me.

That's exactly what I've read somewhere. Those 4 fights were filmed but they were done with a film that is useless after 80 years.

So if somebody hasn't copied them since they are gone forever.

You're the first person I have ever come across who claims to have seen any footage of Harry Greb in action. Even dedicated historians and fight film collectors of the sport like Jim Jacobs had never seen any fight footage of Greb. My guess would be you may have seen a totally different fight because if you did indeed see it, I just don't understand why anyone else who has also seen it won't just come out and publicly state it - also telling us where & when they saw it. I don't understand why anyone who may have the footage would decide to hoard the film and keep it locked away from the masses.

What we do know as fact is that both Greb vs Walker & Greb vs Tunney I were indeed filmed. There is always a chance that the film is stored in the basement of some long lost relative of the fighters or promoters involved and they don't have the slightest idea how valuable the film is to the boxing world.

His fight with Flowers was recorded but it was recorded on tape which erodes after 50 or so years, there was a film / documentary made about Flowers life made in the 20s which contained footage of some of his fights, that's eroded as well unfortunatly. I've heard of the Walker fight existing somewhere. Who knows, we might be lucky and someone managed to save his fight with Flowers somehow.
