As has already been pointed out TB was the cause. But a lot of fighters and people in general died young because of lack of proper health care. Pancho Villa, Harry Greb, Tiger Flowers are a few other legends from earlier era's to die early in life without being murdered or having some kind of accident.

Like Greb at 32 years old, he died following an some operation I've heard conflicting reports though, some say nose, some say eye.
