Best/Worst Refs?

I think the top 2 Referees are the Arts. Arthur Donovan and Arthur Mercante.

On the other side of the coin I think that Tony Perez and Joe Cortez are among the, I don't want to say worst, but lower level refs. I don't think they were effective as the above two and didn't work nearly as many important fights.


How about Dave Barrry, referee in the Long Count fight? Did he botch the fight or simply do the correct job as necessitated by the rules in your opinion?

I've actually come to dislike Cortez with quite a passion. I don't think there is a single ref in history that inserts himself into a fight more and has changed the way the fight could have gone more than him.

I often wonder if he takes it upon himself to do it or if he's paid off....? He's a **** either way and an arrogant prick.

Cortez used to be good but has gotten terrible in the past few years.

Bayless and Smoger are my favorites.

Imo Mills Lane is the God of refereeing, and the worst ref i've ever seen is the baffoon who officiated the Sven Ottke Robin Reed fight in Germany.. That guy should have been arrested and dragged off to the cells as soon as the score cards were being announced..

LOL Arthur Mecante Jr is a joke of a referee and takes himself way too serriosly. I like how he tries to pry up hurt & injured fighters to keep going. ie Yuri Foreman. He tried to keep Michael Grant alive and Lennox said "Not tonight" BOOM!
