  • Is Joe Louis the Greatest Pure Puncher of All Time?

I'm not sure about it...Hearns and Robinson are up there with him, but my God could he punch. Greatest puncher ever?

I couldn't argue if somebody were to claim he's the greatest...

I think guys like Hearns, Dempsey, Tyson, Robinson, Marciano, etc are all equal and on his level.... Among many others.

I personally think that Tyson with his phenomenal footwork and superb unmatched two handed punching power, combination's, hand speed, and just how devastating every punch he threw was (right hook, left hook, devastating uppercut, etc..) make him the greatest pure puncher. I wouldn't argue with anybody who disagreed and thought Joe Louis was though...

      I would order those guys
      1. Robinson
      1a. Louis
      2. Hearns
      3. Dempsey
      4. Tyson

      5. Marciano

Marciano had a lot of power, but he lacked the speed of those other guys. I put Louis and Dempsey ahead of Tyson because of their infighting. Tyson was a decent infighter, but he was at his best at midrange. Louis and Dempsey were good no matter where they were.

Just to be clear: What do you mean by best puncher?

                Are we talkin speed?
                Accuracy?
                Power?
                All of the above?

Maybe but fighters like Foreman and Liston have to be considered too.

All around punching ability. Combination of speed, power, accuracy, technique, etc.
