Sonny Liston 1952 Look at his Reach

Yeah he had close to the longest arms in history. I remember a while back I was watching a boxing show on TSN hosted by Russ Anber and he had George Chuvalo on as a guest. Chuvalo was exsplaining how tough Liston was and he was at ring side and Liston would never go down from a phantom punch like that and how the fix was in. And he talked about Listons punching power and exsplained how Liston had the biggest hands in heavyweight history and this helped make his punching power even more devastating because he had less padding in the gloves around his knuckles then other boxers because the gloves have to go around a bigger surface while being the same weight as the opponents gloves which I had never thought of before watching the show. I think Chuvalo said if Ali had not have beat Liston he was the next to have a shot at him.Last edited by Holtol; 12-29-2010, 08:49 PM.Comment

84" wingspan --- the equal-second longest in HW Championship history. He is tied with Lennox Lewis & one inch short of Primo Carnera --- two men much, much bigger (in most regards, including height) than Liston.
Man was an orangutang. He had other unusually big dimensions, too. Neck, & hands.Comment

I can't claim to know this as fact, but I would assume that the middle of the hand when a fist is made using a measuring tape for the circumference.
One thing I know is that no matter how you measure it, 15" is outrageous for someone who isn't a giant. I've shaken hands with Vitali Klitschko and George Foreman. Vitali's hands weren't that big at all. George's were.Comment
