A prime Ricky Hatton was a decent fighter, truly world class at 140 pounds but if he had a bit more dedication later in his career maybe it would have lasted a bit longer. It's a shame most people only really saw him at the end of his career as a true prime Ricky Hatton was the guy who spent ages defending his bull**** WBU or WBF title or whatever it was, that guy was a true beast.

Hatton was a Decent World Class Fighter ..he was freakishly strong at his natural fighting weight and he did have some boxing ability early on ...but he wasn't the elite was he
I know one thing tho ...i dont think we will ever see for a long time a fighter with a bigger fan following,i mean he put 56000 fans on seats to watch him fight Lascano,Hatton could take 35000 around the world, most wouldnt even get a ticket so would just have to be content on watching a weigh in and then the fight in a bar lol ...as Oscar De La Hoya said he the only fighter i know that brings his own fan base around the world with him "
No matter how good he was ,Theres not many fighters you can say that about now days

You know always used to bring up hatton on mma forums when they used to say boxing was dead...i pointed out how much he was earning per fight and about the 25000 fans he could bring around the world ,most just to see a weigh in ...he could get more fans at weigh ins in another country than the UFC could get at an event...i used to say when was the last time the ufc had 56000 at an event?? ..boxings dead eh ?

Hatton was a very good fighter but not a great one.

Instead of ridiculing him I think a lot of people should respect him for wearing his heart on his sleeve and fighting Manny and Floyd. You only have to look at what has happened to him recently to see how much those defeats hurt him. They meant far more than a big payday which is something that can't be said for a lot of fighters!

He is a good bloke too which is why he is so well liked in England. He is just one of the lads if you like..

He doesn't deserve ridicule. Anyone who is even ranked in the TOP 100 for his weight class for a particular year is good. Damn good. In the same way that anybody who even manages to suit up in the NBA or NFL or MLB is an excellent ballplayer. BUT, as good as Ricky Hatton was, he was never an ATG prospect. He was good enough to get a belt - hey that ****ing great - but his talent level wasn't on par with ATGs.

I think you're underestimating his talent a bit. That sounds weird because you just said he's damn good, but I'm not talking about normal people here. I think Hatton could have been a lot more than he was if he had better habits and fundamentals. Watch as an almost shot Hatton outspeeds Paulie Malignaggi in their fight. Now I know Paulie's nothing to write home about, but he's pretty damn quick and has decent skills and Hatton was easily beating him to the punch.
