Conversely, people saying Young lost always seem to bring up the ropes as some kind of justification for Young losing, as though it serves him right.

What happened in the fight? Who was throwing? Who was landing? Who was dictating? I felt it Young, Young & Young. Ali hit him with next to nothing.

Young popping his head out of the ring serves as a reminder as to who was landing the more effective shots. Who was actually retreating from the more decisive punches landed.

Compubox numbers can only go so far as to telling you how an actual fight plans out, for example.

The people who usually score this fight by a schockingly and laughable wide UD margin to Young are usually Ali haters, revisionist historians or Young nut-huggers.

Young didn't do enough to take the title away from the champion.

In fairness, you could just as acceptably say people scoring it for Ali typically display disdain for Young's tactics, which threaten to impact their scoring unfairly.

We'll have to disagree on this one. I cannot see eight rounds for Ali in that bout.

Retreating & popping your head outside the ring = Anti-Ring-Generalship

That's how people who hold disdain for Young's dirty tactics should view it.

If you can't see 8 rounds for Ali, I have no problem with that. It's your opinion.

I don't think Ali looked so bad he danced for more than half the 15rd fight, threw lots of fast snapping punches, hooks, uppercuts.. Yet Jimmy Young made his game-plan be make an ugly looking fight, even rounds Young clearly lost he would put his arms in the air at the bell to try to get the crowd on his side. (Young done same in Foreman fight) Young did not want to engage Ali in a boxing fight, his tactics was everything other than fight... Young tried his hardest to make Muhammad Ali look poor and he succeeded in doing that yet Young himself looked even poorer and he did nothing in terms of winning rounds to warrant being scored the winner... The fight is on Youtube put up the rounds you feel Young won

Young putting his head through the ropes was no worse a tactic than Ali going whole rounds barely throwing a punch, which he was doing a lot of at that stage of his career. Young controlled the ring, threw more, landed more and won more rounds. I also thought Young beat Norton.

I agree on the Foreman fight too. I gave Foreman most of the early rounds as Young did hardly anything, but Foreman really shot his bolt in the 7th trying to finish Young and after that he just faded. The point deduction and the late knockdown clinched it for Young for me.

The Ali fight was a very bad fight I agree, but I DEFINITELY disagree about Foreman and Norton, you can't take those wins away from him at all
