  • Your Jimmy Young

I think he is very underrated, and has many quality wins over foreman, Lyle twice, ( Ali, norton, shavers, and dokes were all fights he really should have won.) and Garcia. better resume then most guys.

on top of this young definitely would give fits to anybody because of his awkward slick style. his defense in slipping punches and counter punching was also a very food attribute.

he is definitely one of my favorite fighters, I'm curious to what you guys think of him

He is under-appreciated as a fighter (a lot of the contenders from the golden era are imo-quarry,lyle etc)

How do you think he would do in the division today?

I rate Jimmy Young, excellent technician with some excellent performances in the 1970s. I think that as the decades go on he'll be more appreciated.

right now he would dominate anyone outside of wlad and even then he has an excellent chance to beat wladimir
that includes vitali and haye. while he may be smaller then almost everyone he would still be more slick and smarter then anyone today as well. He would counter and slip by vitali's pushing Jab and counter with jabs and right leads, and confuse vitali with his awkward style an winning a close decision

with haye I see young absorbing Hayes flurries and having huge rallies early on (young had underrated power, I think he would pull the upset and stop haye late in the fight

guys like arreola, adamek, solis etc would all get beat

I could not see him making champion in today's division, however, that is solely because I hate his chances against Wlad Klitschko, the current title-holder. Believe me, excepting perhaps his big brother, there is no one in the division Young, on his better nights, wouldn't beat & beat handsomely.

Haye is probably his toughest fight outside of the brothers, & I do not honestly see Young dropping more than four rounds in such a bout. The slobs inhabiting the rest of the top-10, quite simply, are neither good enough, nor fit enough. Very capable contender, but he would fall short against Klitschko, IMO.

i think young caught guys at the right time more than anything.he was like a chris byrd type.he was slick, but had zero pop.he was tough out because of his style but he would be nothing more than a decent contender in any era

Jimmy Young was a good fighter yet i cannot ever see where he was robbed.. i have all the fights you listed and IMO the decision's was correct in them all, i had Ali easily beating Young and i also had Foreman easily beating Young, the thing with him was that he was a slippery customer who was difficult to score against and like said earlier was like a 1970s version of Chris Byrd but bigger.. Young would be far to slippery for the Klitschko brothers and Young's size would be a big advantage for him against them whereas Chris Byrd was too small

No way did either Ali or Foreman outpoint Young, IMO.

The fight with Foreman, though actually closer than history remembers, was still at absolute worst a narrow Young victory. The Ali fight tends to divide people a lot more, but I thought Young plainly won it & should've taken home the title. Ali just couldn't hit Young with anything, in or out of the ropes.

Young lost the Ali fight. Plain and simple.

I'm sick of hearing the same old, lame, tedious statements from people on here claiming Young easily beat Ali and was robbed blah blah. Nonsense.

Young lost that fight. He gets no sympathy vote from me.

If he hadn't spent too much time with his head outside the ropes then he might had a better chance.

i agree Stones.. Young done nothing in the Ali fight to suggest he was the winner and was robbed, i had Ali a big points winner and found it impossible to score rounds for Young when he deliberately held his head out of the ring, i feel his tactic of doing that was to survive and not get KOd which i am sure would have happened.
