  • Rating Barrera and Morales

Most lists I've seen have Erik Morales placed pretty squarely ahead of Marco Antonio Barrera. Why? Is it just based on consistency? Because at their bests, it seems pretty clear to me that Barrera was a superior fighter. It's especially apparent in their head to head matchups. Barrera consistently gets off first, lands with more accuracy and similar power (although I think Morales' right is slightly better than Barrera's left). Is it simply because Morales didn't really turn out duds like the two Jones fights and the hideous loss to Pacquiao?

This ^^, Morales overall career is better then Barrera's even though most people see Barrera as being more skilled.

I've always liked Barrera more but the fact is he never beat Junior Jones or Manny Pacquiao and those were big fights.

Morales had a better chin and was better at scrapping.

what lists????most historians i've seen rate Barrera over Morales....its really only in boxingscene where ive seen morales being so appreciated....

and the second junior jones fight was not a dud for barrera....the guy got robbed......just look at who landed the better cleaner more accurate shots....and after an old barrera easily went the distance with pac, i think the way he lost the first pac fight had a lot to do with the distractions and overconfidence...(though he still wouldve lost, just a bad match up for him)

and before anyone claims bias, i hate barrera and love morales.....but the truth is, whenever i say morales is better, i always think im lying to myself...

that said, even though barrera has the head to head advantage, morales has a slightly better overall resume.....

Disagree on Morales being better at scrapping, like Prinze said Barerra had the advantage when it came to them exchanging, his punches always seemed shorter and much more crisp in a brawl.

To me, their resumes are close, & their fights were close.

I can live with either being ranked over the other, as long as it's not by too great a margin.

in their head to head fights, barrera got the better of morales most of the time when they brawled.....
