  • Your Favourite Commentator in Boxing History

There are a few voices from the past I like hearing. I always liked Don Dunphy's voice, same with Howard Cosell.

However, my favourite commentator is Colonel Bob Sheridan. The manner in which he calls fights; describes the action so well and just makes the fights sound more entertaining than they actually are. He also sounds like a man who has real passion for the sport and that translates well.

    Thoughts.

Don Dunphy was pretty much the voice of boxing for 50 years. Great voice.

My personal favourite is Reg Gutteridge. Great humour, outstanding voice, excellent timing and fine knowledge.

I'm unsure but, I loved Bob's call of Tyson - Douglas and Cosells on Frazier - Foreman.
      Down goes Frazier!

Gutteridge and Carpenter in the UK, and Dunphy,Cosell,Merchant in the states, the best duo I liked was Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy I thought they worked well together.

Don Dunphy, Sheridan, and Howard Cosell, although sometimes he can be annoying.

Don Dunphy for me was the most enjoyable guy to listen to.

I personally can't stand Sheridan- way too spastic and excited for me.

Don Dunphy. He never appeared to have any agenda (unlike Lampley).

I thought Don Dunphy was in a class by himself. To me, he will always rank as # 1.

Howard Cosell was a good announcer but he was often more intent on showing how smart he was and could be terribly annoying at times.

Sorry to say that I cannot remember the names of the TV announcers who worked the Telemundo shows from Los Angeles in the 1970s. They reported the bouts in Spanish and did a really good job. But my memory fails me as I write this. Perhaps someone can fill in the names.
