    Zeljko Mavrovic

Could of he achieved more? He made 6 defences of his European Title. He gave a 98 Lennox Lewis a farirly tough fight. He showed a cast iron chin & alot of durability and had his moment's in the fight.

After the Lewis fight he reitred. With a 28-1 with that loss being by Lewis. Why did he retire? If he stayed round, could of he made a impact? With his chin & power?

Mavrovic suffered some rare illness which left him in bad shape for a long time. He became a businessman and never attempted to box again.

Too bad, after the Lewis fight I thought he'd be around for awhile.

Lewis had to fight him because he was the WBC mandatory opponent, if you check out his records before the Lewis fight, Mavrovic never fought anyone in the top 10 to be deserving of a title shot, Lewis-Holyfield unification had to happen a bit longer.

He had muscle-wasting disease which left him weighing in the region of 150lbs. He was penciled in as a Tyson opponent in late 1999 (Tyson ultimately fought Orlin Norris) and was also scheduled to meet Rahman around the same time, but withdrew and Rahman fought Maskaev instead. The last I heard he was running an organic food business. Shame as he gave a good account of himself against Lewis.

Wow, he went down to 150lb. Cound't he be cured from it? Him vs Tyson would of certainly been exciting.

I think he was also mentioned to be an opponent for then rising heavyweight Kirk Johnson.

I think by the time he recovered completely he had been away from the ring too long. With that and having been ill, the conditioning to fight on a high level would have been very difficult. It is a shame that he had to leave the sport on a non boxing injury with his only loss a decision to the champion.
