  • Resume wars!!!

Lets take the resumes from 3 fighters of one era and compare it to 3 from another. The only catch is that the 3 fighters from whichever respected era had to have fought each other.

Lets start with Jimmy McLarnin, Barney Ross and Tony Canzoneri vs Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran. Which 3 had the better combined resumes and Why?

Feel free to add other trios and make comparisons as well!

Based on wins over Hall of Famers McClarnin could do it on his own:

        Tony Canzoneri (1 win)
        Barney Ross (1 win)
        Lou Ambers (1 win)
        Benny Leonard (1 win)
        Billy Petrolle (2 wins)
        Bud Taylor (1 win)
        Pancho Villa (1 win)
        Fidel LaBarba (2 wins)
        Young Corbett III (1 win)
        Sammy Mandell (2 wins)
        Kid Kaplan (1 win)

Contrast with Leonard who has five wins against Hall of Famers (Duran twice, Hearns, Benitez, Hagler), Duran three (Leonard, Cuevas, Buchanan) and Hearns three (Cuevas, Benitez, Duran).

How many of those Hall of Famers that Jimmy fought were in their prime?

THAT is the question that will make this thread interesting! After all, should we use the B. Leonard fight for McLarning over say the Hearns fight for Duran even though Leonard ranks much higher historically than Hearns? This is going to be a thinking mans thread and one that I will vest more time in when I have a chance.

Jack Johnson, Jim Jeffries and Bob Fitzsimmons vs Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. Which team sports the better overall resumes and why?
